Matthew goes to great length to repeatedly highlight prophecies fulfilled in his gospel account of the birth and life of Jesus. Certainly it is impressive to see words spoken hundreds or thousands of years prior prove true in Jesus. Prophecy fulfilled should impress us and drive us to worship the all-knowing and all-powerful God. But even more, prophecy fulfilled should give us great hope as we, in faith, count on the prophecies yet to be realized. Our faith is built on the evidence we have that God does not lie. We know the promises of God are trustworthy largely because we have seen Him fulfill past promises made to those who lived before us.
