Each of the Gospel writers introduces us to Jesus in a unique way. In Mark, like John, we don’t meet Mary & Joseph; there are no babies, mangers, or singing angels. Instead, Mark focuses on John the Baptist’s ministry culminating in the moment Jesus himself comes to the Jordan. Jesus’ public ministry starts with a cosmic moment: “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased” (Mark 1:11b, ESV).
